EVENTS IN AND AROUND GRASSINGTON

Diane's BLOG

March 2011

The village of Grassington was very quiet on Thursday (3rd March) as the residents turned on Channel 4 to watch the long-awaited 'Love Thy Neighbour' to see how Grassington was going to be portrayed.  Keep on watching every Thursday for another 7 weeks.....you will see that we are truly 'twinned with Paradise' and have a strong community who are accepting of all!!

February 2011

At last....we have the date for the first episode of what is now known to be titled 'Love Thy Neigbour'.....Thursday 3rd March.  The press are showing an interest and Radio Times have interviewed a few of us who were involved for inclusion in the issue released on 22nd February.

November 2010: Channel 4 finish filming
Filming for the Channel 4 series now finished! It has all been very time consuming but very enjoyable! I do know the winner but I am sure you understand that
if I told you it would be like telling you the ending of a book or film!!

October 2010: Harry Potter to stay......!!!
An enquiry for 125 bedrooms in the area for a week resulted in Grassington Lodge being chosen to accommodate the cast members of a new film being filmed in
the area 'The Woman in Black', starring Daniel Radcliffe (aka Harry Potter). Daniel and the other cast members could be seen most evenings in the local pubs/restaurants, chatting easily with the locals.  Daniel took part in the Devonshire's Pub Quiz and was very excited to win a raffle prize....which he kindly donated back!

September 2010: 'The Village' - Channel 4
After several months, Grassington was finally selected after being shortlisted as a location for a new TV series.  Grassington was selected, largely because of its strong sense of community....which my guests' often remark on!  Filming has now started for a new 8 week series 'The Village' (subject to change) which will be broadcast on Channel 4 next February.
The competition series, with a prize of a £300,000 furnished house in Grassington involves 12 families who come into Grassington, two at a time, for 5 days in an attempt
to endear themselves to the locals by staging various events and showing us their talents.  The families are voted off by locals each week.
The series producers and key production personnel are staying here at Grassington Lodge and I am personally becoming rather involved.....who knows, however,
what will happen on the cutting room floor! Cant wait to see it.....just wish I had lost the 10lbs prior to the filming which TV is supposed to add!!

June 2010: Grassington Arts & Music Festival
The Grassington Arts & Music Festival goes from strength to strength.  Many of the acts/performers travel home after their performance but I did have Acker Bilk stay with me this year, along with some other less known performers.

March 2010: 'The Trip' - BBC2
Our first film crew of the year!  'The Trip' starring Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan, a BBC2 series reviewing restaurants in the area (The Angel at Hetton and The Yorke Arms both in the Yorkshire Dales).  Mr Brydon was charming, with a lovely Welsh lilt and easy chat!  Of course, I know what he likes for breakfast but a lady never tells.....!!
